In First Presbyterian Graveyard, Magherafelt, County Derry:

PICKERING. In loving memory of James Pickering died 20th June 1970 aged 72 years.

PICKERING. In loving memory of our dear parents Lennox died 16th Oct. 1985? aged 75 years. Mary died 14th Dec. 1986? aged 70 years. And their son Richard died 6th Feb. 1958? aged 11 weeks.

In Castledawson Anglican Church (Christ Church) Graveyard, County Derry:

PICKERING. In fond memory of a loving husband and father Robert (Bertie) Pickering who went to be with the Lord on the 28th July 1972 aged 57 years. Also his wife Jeanie who went to be with the Lord on the 1st April 2007 aged 88 years.

PICKERING FAMILIES

The following information on a Pickering family from Magheralin was provided by a descendent, David Cassells (sunnyhill@waterfront.net.au):

  1. John Pickering was born about 1810 in Seagoe Parish, County Armagh, and became a weaver. He may be the same John Pickering, the son of Thomas Pickering and Mary Swain (see Chapter 11). John and his wife had at least one child:
    1. Mary Ann Pickering was born in 1836 in Seagoe Parish, County Armagh. On Nov.14, 1858, in the Parish Church of Seagoe, Mary Ann Pickring, 22, a spinster of Magheralin whose father was weaver John Pickring was married to William Castles, 23, bachelor, weaver, of Analoist, parish of Seagoe (father: William Castles, weaver). William Cassells was born on May 22, 1835, in Annaloiste, Seagoe, the son of Willaim Cassells (1785-1847) and his wife Jane Turkington (1790-?). Mary and William had children:
      1. James Cassells was born on Jun.15, 1860, in Annaloiste, Seagoe. On Dec.31, 1883, in St. Rollox, Glasgow, Scotland, he married Isabella "Bella" Daniels, born on Dec.24, 1866, in Milton, Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of William Daniels (1832-1883) and his wife Mary McCaghily.
      2. Samuel Cassells was born in 1863 in Annaloiste, Seagoe. He did not marry and died in 1933.
      3. Elizabeth Cassells was born in 1865 in Annaloiste, Seagoe, and died young.
      4. Turkington Cassells was born in 1868.
      5. William Cassells was born in 1869 in Annaloiste, Seagoe, and married Mary Jane ?.
      6. Jane Cassells was born on Jun.30, 1871, in Annaloiste, Seagoe. She married Berkley Thompson.
      7. Elizabeth Cassells was born in 1873 in Annaloiste, Seagoe. In 1899, she married John Burns in the High Street Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth and John had four children:
        1. William Burns was born in 1900.
        2. Maisie Burns was born in 1902.
        3. Florence Winifred Burns was born in 1906 and died in 1991.
        4. Sarah Elizabeth Burns was born in 1914 and died in 1992.
      8. Sarah Cassells was born in 1874 and did not marry. She died in Oct. 1963.
      9. Mary Ann Cassells was born in 1876 and did not marry. She died in Jul. 1954.
